FAQs

The answer is quite simple. Lactose is a type of sugar that you’ll find in milk and dairy products. Besides milk, you can find lactose in cheese, cream, butter, yoghurt, custard and many more products. Luckily, these days there are loads of other options to choose from that don’t include dairy products, like our delicious dairy free Rude Health Organic Oat Milk. It contains only 4 ingredients – none of which are dairy based and it’s perfect for your morning coffee.

Lactose intolerance happens when your body doesn’t product enough of an enzyme, or protein, called lactase to break down lactose. If your body doesn’t produce enough of this protein, lactose will stay in your digestive system where it will rather be fermented by bacteria. This process causes gasses to build up which cause the symptoms you may experience if you have a lactose intolerance. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your favourite foods. It just means you’ll need to make a few changes and include dairy free foods into your diet. We have a fabulous, vegan dairy free chocolate you could try – Booja-Booja Almond Salted Caramel Chocolate Truffles.

Yes, you can develop a lactose intolerance at any stage of your life. A lot of people will find that they develop this between the ages of 20 – 40, but even babies and young children can develop it. If you suspect you may have a lactose intolerance, chat to your GP, who may suggest you follow a dairy free diet.

No, lactose free does not mean that a product is dairy free. For example, you can buy lactose free milk or other lactose free products which are made from regular cow’s or goat’s milk. The only difference is that these products will also have the lactase enzyme added to them to “neutralise” the lactose. If you prefer to follow a dairy free diet, you could swap out your regular milk for our delicious Glebe Farm Barista Almond Milk Drink.

We stock a wide range of dairy free products for you to choose from without having to compromise on taste or quality. Take a look at our carefully curated selection and find your favourites today.
