Gluten free foods are created using substitute ingredients that don't contain gluten. These ingredients can include gluten free flour, which is made from rice or other ingredients, like chickpeas, or even gluten free pasta which can be made from maizeand rice.
The great news is that natural forms of rice are gluten free! This includes white, wild and brown rice. But you still need to be careful if you have an intolerance or coeliac disease, because gluten can sometimes creep in through factory processing. Alwaysbe sure to check labels for allergens.
Oats is super healthy and nutritious as it's a great source of fibre and also provides sustained energy. Oats doesn't contain gluten, but rather avenin, which is a protein that's quite similar to gluten. Also, quite often oats can be cross contaminated with gluten from manufacturing processes. But there's good news. We have a fabulous Glebe Farm Gluten Free Porridge Oats that's suitable for people who have a gluten intolerance or coeliac disease.
